British Values

In recent years the government has introduced a set of Fundamental British values which are delivered through the curriculum in all English schools. These are Democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect for and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs and for those without faith. At St Paul’s these values form part of the Christian values which underpin the school’s ethos and they are part of the curriculum in a number of subjects both explicitly and implicitly. We expect all governors, staff, students and parents to respectfully support the teaching and living out of British values at the school. In particular, we foster British values by helping students to develop their self-knowledge, self-esteem and self-confidence and to accept responsibility for their behaviour, show initiative, and to understand how they can contribute positively to the lives of those living and working in the locality of the school and to society more widely. We help students to distinguish right from wrong and to respect the civil and criminal law of England and for English public institutions and services. We try to further promote harmony between different cultural traditions by enabling students to acquire an appreciation of and respect for their own and other culture and we encourage respect for democracy and support for participation in the democratic processes.  As citizens who live in Great Britain we want our young people to reflect upon and understand the core values that underpin our society. This document explains how in our PHSE and wider curriculum, we are able to experience these values.    British Values

Personal Development

ACT – LOVE – WALK

Our Personal Development Curriculum is centred on living out the words of our School Prayer:

‘This is what the Lord asks of you, to act Justly, to Love tenderly and to walk Humbly with your God’   Micah: 6

Through this we are committed to developing well-rounded young adults who are prepared to thrive as responsible, compassionate and engaged citizens in modern society.

Our PD programme is deeply rooted in the Catholic faith, guided by the teaching of Jesus and designed to foster the virtues that shape good character, integrity and moral responsibility.

As regulated by the Department for Education our PHSE (Personal, Health, Social Education) & RSE (Relationships and Sex Education) curriculum equips students with the knowledge and skills necessary for understanding relationships, mental and physical health and the World of Work. This aspect of personal development is designed to empower young people to make informed, responsible decisions and navigate the complexities of life.
