Thursday saw Year 10 take part in their final day of WOW. The focus of the day was team building with an emphasis on team work and positive communication.
The students worked in groups to complete a series of physical and mental challenges such as logic puzzles, three legged races, ‘crossing the swamp’ and blindfolded assault courses. The groups were awarded points for their ability to work together successfully. It was great to see all students getting stuck in!
For day 3 of our World of Work week, year 10 took part in the ‘coffee shop challenge’; students were tasked with turning around the fortunes of ‘The Coffee Shop’ by completing a range of tasks which assisted in the recovery of a failing business. Students had to work together in small groups as members of a variety of departments within the coffee shop – interior design, food & beverage, events management/entertainment, marketing/sponsorship/social Media and finance.
Industry visits
Tuesday was a fabulous day of new experiences in the world of work, and of applying the skills that students learn and practice within the school environment, to new and, at times, unfamiliar contexts. Our students again have excelled in many ways and have engaged with the professionals that they have met throughout the day maturely. Students have participated fully; shown an active engagement in their chosen industry visit day and asked some really interesting questions to the professionals who they have worked with.

Fr John Lally celebrated his Farewell Mass on Sacred Heart School Playground on Sunday. He has been parish priest of Sacred Heart & St Margaret Mary Church for 33 years as well as parish priest of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church.
Fr John has been instrumental in working for Catholic education in Leicester- as chair of the Leicester Catholic Schools Council, in interfaith dialogue through the Leicester Council of Faiths and has served as both Vice Chair and Chair of Governors for St Paul’s School. We thank him for all that he has brought to our young people and wish him well for his retirement in Earl Shilton.
Monday saw the first day of WOW week for two years and the students in Year 10 embraced the challenges faced amazingly well throughout the day!
Our students engaged with a range of professionals from different business sectors in the Speed Networking activity. The sectors represented included the hospitality sector; the army; police force; national charity organisations; the clergy; engineering and many, many more. The networking activity gave our students an opportunity to discuss the various job roles, the day-to-day experience of professionals, their salary and requirements for entry to the roles. The professionals commented very positively on how thoughtful our students’ questions were and how wonderfully presented they were for the day.
The second part of the day included a range of ’employment ready’ tasks. These tasks included reflecting on their own personal skills and attributes; considering ethical and moral dilemmas in the workplace; developing team work and communication skills to problem solve and learning how to think creatively when in an interview situation.
An excellent day had by all and we very much look forward to seeing how the students continue to flourish throughout the week in challenging situations and continue to develop their employability skills in real life workplaces.
The 10th world meeting of families is celebrated in Rome this week. The Pope realises not all families can attend and asks that parishes and homes celebrate together instead. The theme this year is Family love: a vocation and path to holiness. Let us remember what joy our families bring us and we give thanks for the gift of family in our lives.
Prayer for Families
We Are Family
Lord, God, we thank you for the gift of family. We acknowledge that our image and name as family come from you. We believe that within our family lies a homemade holiness. We affirm that it is in this household of faith that we experience your presence, your forgiveness, and your love.
We are Family. We give thanks to you for the many joys and blessings that have come to us through family.
As a family we sometimes feel pain. And so we offer you our disappointments, frustrations, and hurts. Help us to forgive those members of our family, including ourselves, who have caused pain.
We pray for the strength to be a light within our family. May we open our hearts, our eyes, and our ears and carry our light to those in need.
God, Creator of the earth and all its people, help us to be mindful that, as members of one global family, we are equal in your eyes. Help us to continue to appreciate the diversity of persons in our homes and in our world. As members equal in human dignity, may we build a better world and proclaim our willingness to be the holy people you call us to be.
Amen

Our brilliant Carnegie reading group have worked so hard this term reading the shortlist of books (8 each) and giving up a weekly lunch to share their thoughts on the texts. Today they went to Moat for the awards ceremony and our students were fab! They were the youngest students there, yet were able to talk confidently and enthusiastically about their reading. If you get a chance, please do congratulate them.
They are Angel, Alja,, Madison, Tillie-Rose & Abigail.
