The University of Leicester are running a range of medicine specific events throughout April to help both teachers and students find out what they really need to train to become a doctor and study medicine at university.

Teachers’ Medicine Careers Evening – Thursday 4th April 2019, 4-6pm, University of Leicester

The medical profession is changing, and so are the qualities, skills and knowledge required by medical and healthcare students. This free event is aimed at helping equip teachers and careers advisers with the knowledge to support students, especially those from a disadvantaged background aspire to study medicine at university. From research, many students decide that they don’t have what it takes to study medicine before they start their post-16 studies, so we especially want teachers working with younger year groups to attend, so the right advice is given early on.

Year 10 and Year 11 Medicine Calling – Thursday 11th April, 5:30-8:30pm, University of Leicester

An evening for students in Year 10 and Year 11 and their parents, carers or teachers to find out more about what is needed to study medicine, with a spotlight on psychiatry and mental health careers. This evening will give students the opportunity to speak to current doctors, take part in a practical workshop as well as find out about all the support on offer from the University of Leicester. Refreshments are provided. Please pass on this information to any students who you feel would benefit from attending.

To book a place at this free event, please encourage them to email medreach@le.ac.uk

World Book Day 2019 – Thursday 7th March:

This year’s theme is “Share a Story” so please if you have the time try reading to your child or get them to read to you. To celebrate we will be handing out World Book Day £1.00 vouchers (redeemable in many bookshops and supermarkets) and some of the specially produced £1.00 books. Students can also order from the Scholastic book club and use their voucher to save £1.00.

We will be running a “Book Jacket Potato” Competition – asking students to create a character or book title from a potato (if you want to help or find out more Pinterest has lots of ideas!)  Staff and students will be voting for St. Paul’s favourite book. If you have time please discuss what your favourite books were when you were young.
