One of the best things you can do over the summer holiday for your child is to encourage reading.  To help with this, why not sign your child up for the Big Friendly Read, this year’s summer reading challenge?

Celebrate 100 years of Roald Dahl and the amazing artwork of his illustrator, Sir Quentin Blake, with this summer’s reading challenge – The Big Friendly Read. The 6 themes: mischief, invention, adventure, wordplay, child champions and friendship are all explored in Roald Dahl’s most famous books.

Who: Children/ young people 0-15yrs.  They need to be a library member to join – it is free and easy to join at any Leicester Library/Bookbus.

When: Starts Friday 1st July. End Wednesday 31st August. The scheme will extend for a further 2 weeks into Sept to allow more children to finish – last day to finish Sunday 11th September.

What: Each child will be given a Big Friendly Read card wallet on joining.

Collect 6 Quentin Blake cards (some scratch n sniff) and other giveaways as children read books/talking books – fiction and/or non-fiction.
