Our Diversity Committee have put together and delivered an assembly on LGBT+ History Month which is a national event that takes places in February. They taught students about the historical key events and figures of the LGBT+ rights movement before exploring the official teaching of the church of accepting with sensitivity, compassion and respect and some examples of Pope Francis doing this. They then invited all present to pray with us to fulfill the call of the Catechism to avoid any unjust discrimination directed towards the LGBT+ community.
The Y7s made us all proud tonight and beat Charnwood College 43-26! Their finals will be on Wednesday 13th March at the Morningside Arena.
We are delighted to have Frances Marshall and her photographs with us today. Frances is exhibiting in London currently with a collection spotlighting and celebrating prominent queer leaders in religion. Frances says ‘these subjects risk so much personally in order to live in their truth and create positive change within the monotheistic religions. The subjects captured openly identify as queer and by their very existence provide a safe space within institutions that historically have promoted queerphobia. The goal of this project is to shine a light on these individuals that demonstrate being queer and having religious beliefs can beautifully coexist.’
